Goes back further than that... Seems the last Republican Governor is to blame:

http://www.newsobserver.com...river.html

The troublesome pipes that ran beneath the Duke Energy coal ash ponds at the Dan River plant caught the eye of third-party inspectors at least as far back as 1986.

Republican Martin was in charges from 1985 - 1993

You know I really do hate to dig up an old topic but new information has surfaced on this coal ash spill. Seems that the first Republican governor we have had in years might not be able to claim all the responsibility for this environmental disaster. In 2009 the Federal inspectors with the EPA inspected and found nothing of concern as far as the pipes were concerned. Now which political party was in charge of the jackboot thugs with the EPA in the year 2009. HMMMMMM? Seems like it might have been the boy king and his SS troops.

Hard to do anything when Duke controls the regulations.

If you don't realize that political donations, extremely inefficient regulations and handcuffed regulators are the cause of this, then there's no discussing the real situation with you.

Duke funds our politicians. They knew this pipe in trouble for decades. They didn't once try to fix it after finding out in 1986 and no regulation could force them to.

Lobbyist for Duke own our policy making for DENR. They gave $1 Million to McCrory's campaign for Governor. Made $7 Billion in PROFIT last year and are still going to pass off their mistake/coverup costs to their customers.

Keep defending your corporate overlord.

And...... nothing was done for the last 25 years of democrat socialistic theft. Must not have been too important to them

Now let's look at who's the Governor in 1986.

I'll just leave this for you to figure out.

Which party was in charge when these faulty galvanized pipes were installed? Is this something that has suddenly happened or was it started during the democrats watch but has just now surfaced

That's easy enough to figure out:

Lately there's no need to give the Republicans a little rope to hang themselves with when their own shoestrings are working fine.

It will be nice to see McCrory in state prison making big rocks into little rocks :) My driveway needs some new gravel.

if you read the first post it never said the public would bay the cost of the spill clean up,matter of fact said they would not.But said if made to move ash ponds that the public would carry the cost.im o.k with that it happens all the time.Any time any business is made to do things to protect the public that is took as a cost of doing business and is passed on to the public.Like its been said these ponds have leaked for years, but it was o.k til McCrory started takeing your free ****

The last RATE INCREASE came under Bev Purdue, did it not? Was that McCrory's fault too?

Grumpo, what is the difference in us bearing the cost for the clean-up for Duke power and our children and grandchildren having to bear the cost of Obamacare and the whole Obama reign.

40X...then you are ok with paying for the clean up rather than Duke Power bare the cost?... hmmmm let's think about this....its a by product that was produced by Duke Power but we the customers are responsible for the mess Duke Power Created...as for the Ads remember what happened when a group has brought a class suite action that was to go to Court...and the day before it was to be heard the McCrory yes this administration took over the problem and that stopped the law suit from going forward...then McCrory's supporters meaning the Administration then said to Duke Power you will be fined $99 thousand dollars for the two spills and said they will get back to Duke Power about cleaning this mess up....really? a company that made a Billion Dollars Plus get fined $99 Thousand dollars?... you get a fine for dumping trash on the side of the road and appear in court to face the judge who gives you an area to clean up...remember this dumping you make does not affect a water way that Farmers need to irrigate to grow produce.....but again if your willing to pay for the clean up than have at it....then pay for a raise in your rates when McCrory will approve the rise in rates....it will come...just wait for it.....

Democrats have been all over this, it's pure politics. They fail to mention that they were in charge a long time before McCrory, and truth be known the leaks were going on then too.

The adds they're running on tv are pure political. They're just a bunch of weasly slime balls. But hey, they know that.

When more of this comes to light it's going to spell big trouble for the McCrory administration.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) Internal emails between staff at North Carolina's environmental agency show state regulators were coordinating with Duke Energy before intervening in efforts by citizens groups trying to sue the company over pollution leeching from its coal ash dumps.

The emails were provided Thursday to The Associated Press by the Southern Environmental Law Center, which had filed notice in January 2012 of its intent to sue Duke under the Clean Water Act.

Within days, the emails show a Duke lobbyist contacted the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, where staff exchanged messages discussing "how Duke wants to be sued."

The agency used its authority to intervene in the lawsuit, quickly negotiating a proposed settlement where the $50 billion company would pay a $99,100 fine but be under no requirement to stop its pollution.
